Zoey Martinson

Zoey Martinson is an award-winning director and writer who comes to us from film and theater, so yes, she’s very FANCY.

Zoey is a recipient of the Rauschenberg Artist as Activist Fellowship; NYC Mayor’s Film, TV and Theatre grant; and Filmmakers Without Borders grant. Her work has won Diversity at Cannes 2020, been nominated for an Amnesty International Freedom of Expression Award, African Movie Academy Award, and was featured on BBC World Service. She was named one of the 18 Women Making Black History by popsugar.com and listed as an artist to watch by American Theater Magazine.

Living in Africa, London, and the US has given her work a unique multicultural lens to tell her stories through. Her award-winning film The Fisherman is streaming on HBO Max. In 2021, she was commissioned by Tribeca Studios and P&G to create the short film Cupids, for their 8:46 Film series premiering at the Tribeca Film Festival that year. The film aired on BET & CBS, and was nominated for an NAACP Image Award in 2022.

Her next short Incomplete was also nominated for an NAACP Image Award in 2023. Her award-winning short film La Oposición played at Casa Mexico Program at SXSW.

Longer form projects include Season 2, Episode’s 1-6 of Ziwe on Showtime and Skype Duet, an immersive, international theater piece performed live simultaneously in New York and Berlin.
